After your pacemaker/defibrillator/loop recorder is implanted, your cardiologist will evaluate it approximately every 6 months (but sometimes more or sometimes less often).
This is done with the use of a computer called a ‘programmer’ in the cardiologists’ clinic. By placing a special wand over your skin, the programmer wirelessly provides information about how the device is working and about the heart rhythm. Your device can be programmed wirelessly.
This check is painless and takes 5-10 minutes. Some people may be advised to have their pacemakers / defibrillators / loop monitors checked over the Internet with a monitor at home (home monitoring).
